"Awarded to those who exemplify the qualities of outstanding business leadership and high ethical standards that characterize Alan J. Hoener."

Alan joined the Rotary Club of Webster Groves during the late 1960s, then served as Club President in 1972 and District Governor in 1978.  In 1985, District Governor H. Middleton asked Alan to initiate the District's first  International Youth Exchange committee; fittingly, the District's first international exchange student was  sponsored by the Rotary Club of Webster Groves. The program has become one of the Club's most successful international projects, sponsoring at least one high school student for most years every since. Alan also created an officer training program for our Club, having recognized the challenges faced by inexperienced Club members willing to take on the responsibilities of leadership in Rotary and the community. The program has grown into a model used throughout Rotary.

This award created in Alan's honor in 2010-2011 under President Dick Sant is presented each year to both an individual community leader and a community business or organization. The first year, the awards were presented to Rotarian Steve LaBarge and the Webster Rock Hill Ministries.
