For many years, the Club had subsidized Presidents' expenses for attending RI conventions on an ad-hoc basis, as it did in 1952 when Bud Holekamp attended the RI convention in Mexico City. In 1995, Alan Hoener suggested to the club's Board of Directors that it would benefit of the club if we allocated a line item in the annual budget to send our President-Elect to the RI Convention each year. In 1996, Mike Oppermann became the first President-Elect to benefit from the new guidelines, attending the convention held in Calgary, Canada. In June 2005, President-Elect Pat Welch attended the milestone celebration of Rotary's 100th anniversary in Chicago. The Club continues subsidizing part or all of the expenses associated with attending RI's international conventions.
