Tonga Water Project
Our Rotary Club contributed funds for a water tank for a school in Village Houma located on the island of Eura in the Kingdom of Tonga.
This project came about at the request of Lonita Benson, a graduate of our local Webster Groves High School. Lonita is serving in the Peace Corp in the Village of Houma.
The primary school in the village lacked access to clean water for the students. Often school is terminated after lunch because there is no running water. There were two water tanks in the school compound, but only one was suitable for drinking water.
Our club approved $2,600 for a 12,000 gallon water tank for the school and worked jointly with the Tonga Rotary Club Nuku Alofa.
Photos show the locals unloading supplies for the construction of the tank, school children watching the construction and the completion of the construction of the tank.
