Make a Difference Day is an annual opportunity to work alongside neighbors on projects that matter in Webster Groves. The City holds it on the fourth Saturday in October; individual work sites, partners, and volunteer assignments change from year to year.
One day, many ways to help
A community call to action
Make a Difference Day invites people to look around their community, see what needs to be done, and work together. Rotary helped sponsor the first Webster Groves Make a Difference Day in October 1999 and continues to be a major sponsor.
A past club volunteer notice described a Bird Sanctuary trail-mulching project in Blackburn Park, beginning at the Old Orchard Avenue trailhead. Rotary volunteers were asked to bring wheelbarrows, shovels, and pitchforks and to work alongside other community volunteers.
Work done together
A public Make a Difference Day album documents volunteers contributing time and practical labor at an outdoor park work site.
Each project brings neighbors together to respond to practical community needs.

Caring for shared outdoor places
The same public album shows volunteers working at a Rotary-marked barbecue pit in Blackburn Park. The club’s community-service history records that two barbecue pits were built there through a 2003 Community Assistance Program grant.
This is an example of the kind of lasting community asset that volunteer maintenance can keep useful.
