In 1985, Webster Groves Rotary became the first host club for what is now District 6060’s Rotary Youth Exchange program. The club welcomed the district’s first incoming student and began a tradition that has shaped local families and students for decades.
The world becomes personal
The club’s history records at least one hosted exchange student every year since, apart from the COVID interruption, while dozens of local students have been sponsored for experiences abroad. Exchange happens through ordinary life—school mornings, family dinners, local celebrations, and conversations that slowly turn a guest into family.
International friendship is not limited to students. Through Rotary Friendship Exchange, Webster Groves members spent two weeks in Tamil Nadu, India, meeting local Rotarians and learning about their communities, culture, and service. Both programs build understanding through time spent in one another’s homes and communities.

District 6060 directs prospective exchange students to South Central Rotary Youth Exchange (SCRYE) for the long-term and short-term application forms. Applications are sponsored through a local Rotary club.
